A CAT loader display can have buttons grouped around a screen, fixed labelled keys or controls positioned beside the display. Their arrangement helps describe the operator interface, but it does not by itself identify the machine's fitted options. The meaning of a button comes from the applicable panel and machine documentation.
For a replacement enquiry, record the layout as it exists and the function information that can be supported. Avoid translating every unfamiliar symbol into a guessed hydraulic or engine function. A wrong interpretation can make a visually accurate comparison technically misleading.
Separate the display from neighbouring controls
Start by defining the assembly being requested. Buttons around a screen may belong to the display, while switches on the surrounding console can be separate components. A wide cab photograph helps establish that boundary, but the parts breakdown should determine the actual orderable assembly.
Do not assume that a seller's panel photograph includes everything visible in the cab image. Trim, switch packs and the screen may be supplied separately. Identify whether the request concerns the display assembly, a keypad, a console panel or another documented part.
Record the layout before assigning meanings
Describe button positions consistently: above, below or beside the display, with the viewing direction made clear. Preserve the visible symbols and text in the photograph. A position reference is useful when a symbol is worn because it lets the supplier locate the unresolved detail without inventing its meaning.
Keep a blanking position separate from a button with an unreadable legend. They are different observations. A blank space does not prove that a machine lacks a particular function; a shared panel design may have unused positions or options defined elsewhere in the equipment documentation.
Do not carry a familiar symbol interpretation from another panel into this one without checking the relevant instructions. Similar interfaces can still use different menus or assignments.
Fixed legends and screen-dependent keys differ
A fixed legend gives a visible label to a control. A soft key can take its meaning from the adjacent screen content and may serve different actions on different pages. When an existing photograph shows a soft-key function, retain the screen page context rather than recording that function as permanently assigned.
A navigation key is also different from a command for a machine function. Selecting a page, acknowledging a message and changing an operating setting are distinct actions. The documentation should explain which action the particular key supports and under what conditions.
Record only states actually observed or documented. A photograph of a highlighted option does not necessarily show that a function is enabled or executing. Selection, permission and physical response are different parts of machine operation, even when the display presents them close together.
Use the button comparison as one requirement
Compare the offered panel's layout with the required assembly, but also confirm its part identity and application. Matching faces do not establish software support, communication or electrical compatibility. A panel may resemble the original while lacking a required function in the delivered configuration.
A documented replacement can also look different. If the supplier offers a revised interface, ask for the supported replacement relationship and an explanation of any changed labels or operation. Cosmetic preference alone is not a sound basis for choosing a newer-looking panel.

Give the quotation a functional boundary
List the documented interface functions that the replacement must support and identify any whose meaning is still unresolved. Ask whether the offered item supplies the relevant controls within the quoted assembly. A promise that the screen lights up does not answer that question.
Where the offer changes the interface, preserve the applicable operating information for the receiving team. Staff should be able to identify which instructions describe the supplied panel instead of relying on a screenshot of the old one. Do not request experimental button presses on an operating machine just to complete the record.
A useful final comparison therefore shows the visible layout, the supported interpretation of its keys and the confirmed assembly scope. It records what the buyer needs without treating button count, empty positions or an attractive front photograph as a machine configuration report.
