A pressure-sensor request needs more than a number followed by bar or psi. The pressure reference matters too. Gauge, absolute and differential pressure describe different comparisons, so two sensors with similar-looking ranges are not automatically interchangeable.
Ask what the pressure is measured against
Gauge pressure is measured relative to ambient pressure. Absolute pressure uses an absolute-vacuum reference. WIKA explains this distinction in its pressure-reference overview. Changing the reference changes what the reported value means.
Differential pressure describes the difference between two pressures. It is not another name for a high-range pressure sensor. The specified measuring task determines whether that comparison is needed; a buyer should not choose it simply because a catalogue offers a similar connector.

Record the reference exactly as stated in the component specification. If the paperwork says only 'pressure sensor', leave the reference unresolved and ask for confirmation. Do not add a gauge or absolute designation because it seems likely for the installation.
The same unit does not make two ranges equivalent
Bar, kPa and psi are units. They do not, on their own, establish the pressure reference or the sensor's measurement range. Keep the range endpoints and reference together when comparing an offer with the required component.
A maximum measurement value is also not an instruction about an acceptable machine operating pressure. The component specification and the equipment's operating requirements answer different questions. Do not use a sensor catalogue range as a limit for operating the hydraulic or engine system.
If two documents use different units, preserve their original values and identify any conversion separately. A copied number without its original unit can turn a straightforward comparison into a false mismatch. Check the reference type before comparing the converted values.
Mechanical fit leaves the measurement question open
A matching thread and connector can help compare the physical interface. They cannot establish whether the sensor measures the required pressure reference or uses the specified signal. Those characteristics need their own confirmation.
Keep the pressure port description separate from the electrical connection. The CAT sensor thread guide addresses physical connection details. A successful physical comparison is useful evidence, but it does not complete the application review.
Where a supplier proposes an alternative, ask for the characteristics relevant to the identified application. A statement that the sensor is 'higher range' is not proof that it is a better replacement. The receiving system must interpret the specified component correctly.
Do not infer the reference from a screen value
A displayed pressure can be processed or presented according to the equipment's configuration. Its appearance on a monitor does not identify the complete specification of the installed sensor. Use the documented part requirement rather than reverse-engineering a purchase from one reading.
Likewise, a zero displayed value cannot by itself establish which pressure reference is being used. Preserve the field label and operating context for the responsible assessment. Do not disconnect or pressurise a sensor merely to decide which replacement to order.
Separate the printed sensor specification from a supplier's suggested substitute in the comparison record. If the substitute uses different terminology, ask for an explicit explanation rather than shortening both descriptions until they appear identical.
Keep the enquiry tied to the measuring point
Identify the confirmed component and the system in which it is used. A pressure request for one measurement point should not borrow the specification from another point elsewhere on the same machine. Shared equipment identity does not make all its pressure sensors equivalent.
The guide to pressure-sensor application records covers that location evidence. Use the CAT parts category once the required reference is established. Keep the accepted pressure type, range and interface confirmation with the order rather than reducing the description to a photograph and a number.
