Many wrong orders start with one front photo. I understand why buyers do it. It is quick, and the part on the table looks obvious to the person holding the phone.

For ECM, ECU, and display parts, that first photo is usually not enough. The useful evidence is on the label, connector side, housing, damage marks, and machine context. A clear photo set can save a lot of back-and-forth before anyone talks about price.
Electronic control parts are picky. Small suffixes, plug shape, pin layout, and even mounting details can change the match. Display panels add another layer because the front may look right while the rear plug or screen layout tells a different story.
The photos that actually help
Start with the label. Capture the full sticker, including small numbers, suffixes, and any reman or replacement marks.

If the label is dirty, clean it gently. Don't scrape it until the numbers disappear. That sounds obvious, but it happens.
This part feels small, but it can stop the whole order.
Next, take the connector side. Show plug count, pin layout, locking tabs, corrosion, water marks, and burnt pins if there are any. For a display monitor, add front and back photos so the panel layout and mounting points are clear.
The machine nameplate helps too. It doesn't replace the old part number, but it gives context. Excavator, loader, generator set, truck, marine engine, industrial diesel engine. Those words point the search in the right direction; the part label still does the heavy lifting.
If there is damage, photograph it. Water inside the case, a cracked connector shell, heat marks near the plug, broken pins.
Those details may not change the part number, but they can change the advice. Sometimes the old unit failed because something outside the module is still wrong.
Maybe I am being too careful here. Still, wrong parts are expensive.
Before asking for a quote
Photos do not replace technical diagnosis. They do make the buying decision cleaner. With a full label photo, connector photo, whole-unit view, machine plate, and damage photo, a supplier can usually give a better compatibility answer.
Without those photos, the answer becomes cautious. Maybe this one.
Maybe another suffix. Maybe the connector is different. Nobody likes that kind of quote.
So keep the photo set simple: label, connector, whole unit, machine plate, damaged area if there is one. Five images. Not fancy, just useful.
